Hisui Terrace

Hisui Terrace opened in October 2018 as a tourism exchange center for Hisui Coast in Asahi, Shimoniikawa District, Toyama Prefecture. The modern facility serves as the primary hub for visitors exploring one of the world's rare environments where jade stones washed up from the ocean can be collected safely. The Miyazaki-Sakai Beach, also known as Hisui Coast, is one of the few places in the world where visitors can find jade stones washed on the shore, and jade artifacts discovered at nearby ancient ruins make this area a center of jade culture in Japan.

The region's unique geology stems from its location between the Fossa Magna and the Itoigawa-Shizuoka Tectonic Line, with minerals dating back 20 to 500 million years. The beach stretches approximately 4 kilometers from east to west with emerald green waters. Jade hunting is most successful about three days after rough seas, when heavy waves wash stones ashore. Expert guides from the Hisui Megumi-no-Kai (Association for the blessings of jade) offer instruction on identifying and distinguishing jade from regular stones.

The facility features a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the Sea of Japan and Hisui Coast, along with an event hall, cooking space, showers, and bathrooms. It functions as a cycling station offering bicycle rentals and repair tools. Visitors uncertain about their finds can have stones examined by staff at the facility. The center supports various outdoor activities including swimming, fishing, and mountain climbing.
