The climb to Kirosan Observatory is challenging and recommended only for experienced cyclists. The route involves 360 meters of elevation gain with a 5-9 degree gradient. Cyclists typically take about one hour to reach the summit, including rest breaks. The sides of the observatory's 100+ steps are covered with rubber matting to accommodate cycling shoes, which is a thoughtful touch for those completing the climb.
The park provides essential visitor facilities at the summit. Clean public toilet facilities are available, along with a sturdy metal bicycle rack that can accommodate around 10 bikes. There is a small kiosk near the entrance selling refreshments including ice cream and drinks. The parking area has space for 18 regular vehicles plus additional spaces for tour buses.
While the park is open 24 hours and offers impressive views throughout the day, the most popular times are sunset and nighttime. The park is extremely popular with photographers at sunset, when the sky transforms into vibrant colors over the Seto Inland Sea. At night, visitors can see the illuminated Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge and the city lights of Imabari creating a spectacular display. Clear weather conditions are ideal for viewing Mount Ishizuchi in the distance.
Access without a car is very limited. The park is best reached by private vehicle or bicycle. Public transportation options are minimal, and the nearest bus stop requires approximately a two-hour walk to reach the observatory. For those not driving, cycling is the most practical alternative, though the steep climb makes it suitable only for fit cyclists. From Oshima Kita Interchange on the Shimanami Kaido expressway, the park is about 15 minutes by car.
