Soma Odaka Shrine

Soma Odaka Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine located in Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture, known for its association with the renowned Soma Nomaoi festival, one of Japan's most spectacular equestrian events. The shrine serves as one of three main venues for this ancient warrior tradition, alongside Soma Nakamura Shrine and Soma Koyasu Shrine, forming a trinity of sacred sites that have preserved samurai horseback culture for over 1,000 years.

The shrine's origins trace back to the Heian period, established by the Soma clan who ruled this region for centuries. It enshrines Myoken Boson, a deity associated with the North Star and considered the guardian of the Soma clan. From the station, the shrine is within walking distance. Visitors traveling by car can reach the site via National Route 6. There is no admission fee to enter the shrine grounds, making it freely accessible to all visitors throughout the year.
