Yufuin Floral Village

Yufuin Floral Village is a themed mini attraction park located in Yufuin, a renowned onsen town in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan. The village was designed to recreate the architectural style of England's Cotswolds region, famous for its ancient stone houses with distinctive honey-yellow coloring. The Cotswolds area notably served as a filming location for Harry Potter, and this connection permeates the village's atmosphere and offerings.

Oita Prefecture is particularly celebrated for having the largest concentration of natural hot springs and underground water in the world, making Yufuin a strategic location for thermal spa tourism. The village itself represents a more recent addition to the area's attractions, capitalizing on the growing popularity of themed entertainment spaces that blend Western aesthetics with Japanese hospitality.

Visitors to Yufuin Floral Village can explore dozens of themed boutique shops housed in European-style stone cottages connected by flower-lined pathways. Each small house features a different theme based on Studio Ghibli films, including My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away. The main attraction is Owl's Forest, an indoor petting zoo where guests can interact with owls and other animals. Visitors can also dress up in traditional Harry Potter school uniforms and pose for photographs with the owls. The village's garden features a miniature pond decorated with seasonal flowers that change throughout the year, serving as a popular photography spot.

Entry to Yufuin Floral Village is completely free, though individual attractions charge separate fees. Admission to Owl's Forest costs ¥700 for visitors aged 13 and above, ¥500 for children between 4 and 12 years old, and is free for children under 3. The village is accessible on foot from Yunotsubo Street, the main shopping street in Yufuin. The easiest transportation option is by car, though buses run from Hakata Station to Yufuin, stopping at 9 locations over approximately 2.5 hours.

The scenic Yufuin no Mori train from Fukuoka to Yufuin costs between ¥2,000 to ¥4,000 depending on seating class. Parking fees apply for those arriving by car, and the village can only be accessed on foot from parking areas. The compact size of the village allows most visitors to explore the entire area in approximately one hour.
