The Hakodate Seikan Train Ferry Memorial Museum Mashū-maru preserves the legacy of Japan's vital cross-strait transportation system that connected Hokkaido and Honshu before the modern tunnel era. The Mashū-maru served as one of the Seikan railway ferries operating between Hokkaido and Honshu until 1988, when the service ended with the opening of the Seikan Tunnel.
