Ikoro no Mori

Ikoro no Mori translates from the Ainu language as "treasure," reflecting this botanical garden's status as one of Hokkaido's natural gems. Located in Tomakomai City, this northern-style garden was designed by gardeners who studied in England and represents a unique fusion of European garden design principles adapted to Hokkaido's climate.

The garden features 11 distinct themed areas, each showcasing different aspects of northern horticulture and seasonal beauty. Notable sections include the Woodland Garden surrounded by mature trees, the Rose Garden featuring cold-hardy rose varieties specifically cultivated for northern climates, the White Garden displaying an array of white-blooming plants, and the Natural Garden showcasing native Hokkaido wildflowers. Each garden demonstrates the remarkable diversity of flora that can thrive in Hokkaido's distinct seasonal conditions.

Visitors can experience horseback riding through the gardens via the on-site equestrian club, offering a unique perspective on the landscape. The garden café "Chise" serves lunch options including taco rice, steak, and salads, along with soft serve ice cream and homemade desserts paired with their signature original blend coffee. Adjacent to the café, the Restaurant Garden provides a lawn area where guests can relax in the open space. The Ikor House shop offers garden tools, plant seedlings, crafts by local Hokkaido artists, and household items, making it an ideal spot for unique souvenirs.

Admission costs 800 yen for adults (junior high school students and older), 400 yen for seniors (ages 65 and older), and is free for children (elementary school students and younger). The facility is located at 565-1 Uenae, Tomakomai City, Hokkaido, approximately 30 minutes by car from JR Chitose Line's Uenae Station. The drive from Tomakomai Station takes approximately 35 minutes. Credit cards are not accepted for entrance fees, and the garden closes entirely during winter months from November 1st to April 20th.
