Kamakura Daibutsu (Great Buddha)

The Kamakura Daibutsu, or Great Buddha of Kamakura, is a monumental bronze statue of Amida Buddha located at Kōtoku-in temple in Kamakura, Japan. Standing approximately 13.35 meters (43.8 feet) tall and weighing about 121 tons, it is one of the largest bronze Buddha statues in Japan.

The statue dates back to around 1252 during the Kamakura period and was originally housed in a temple hall, which was destroyed multiple times by natural disasters. Since the late 15th century, the statue has stood in the open air. Its hollow interior allows visitors to enter and observe the structure from within.

The Kamakura Daibutsu is a significant example of Japanese religious sculpture and reflects the influence of both Japanese and Chinese artistic traditions.
