Behind the temple buildings lies the Hill of Hope, a marble garden adorned with Italian Carrara marble and featuring a dramatic collection of modern Buddhist sculptures and art installations.
Visitors can explore the entire temple grounds, which typically takes one to two hours for a thorough visit. The contrast between traditional Japanese temple aesthetics and the bold, colorful reproductions creates a visually striking experience. The marble garden offers panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea and the Shimanami Kaido bridge system. Kosanji Temple is accessible via the Shimanami Kaido, the scenic cycling route connecting Honshu and Shikoku islands. From Onomichi, visitors can take a bus directly to Setoda, the main town on Ikuchi Island, with the journey taking approximately 40 minutes. The temple is a 10-minute walk from Setoda Port. Cyclists on the Shimanami Kaido will find the temple conveniently located near the route. Admission to the temple grounds costs ¥1,400 for adults, which includes entry to both the temple buildings and the Hill of Hope marble garden.
