Maizuru Nature and Cultural Park

Maizuru Nature and Cultural Park is situated on the scenic Oura Peninsula in northeastern Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture. The park was developed from the former Seibu Farm land acquired by Maizuru City, transforming it into a nature preserve that showcases the rich natural environment of the peninsula.

The park serves as a premier destination for seasonal flower viewing in Japan, featuring two spectacular botanical collections. The camellia garden houses approximately 30,000 camellia trees representing 1,500 different varieties, creating one of the country's most extensive camellia collections. The 30,000-tree grove typically blooms in mid-March, drawing visitors from across the region. The hydrangea garden contains approximately 100,000 hydrangea plants of 100 different varieties, which bloom spectacularly in June across a two-hectare stretch of parkland.

Visitors can experience diverse natural landscapes throughout the year. The park sits on a hill with views of the sea in the distance, offering scenic overlooks from its elevated position. Winding walking trails connect the various garden areas, allowing guests to explore the extensive grounds at their own pace. The hydrangea displays feature a vivid array of blue, purple, pink, and white blooms during peak season, while the autumn leaves and scenery are particularly gorgeous in the fall.

The park is accessible via public transportation to Maizuru City in Kyoto Prefecture. The park fills with visitors when the flowers are in bloom, particularly during camellia season in March and hydrangea season in June. Admission fees apply for entry to the specialized garden areas during peak blooming periods.
