Mitsuike Park is a scenic public park located in Tsurumi Ward, Yokohama, Japan, centered around three interconnected ponds that give the park its name—"mitsuike" literally means "three ponds" in Japanese. The park covers approximately 30 hectares and has been a cherished green space since its establishment in 1952. Originally developed as a traditional Japanese garden landscape, the park preserves much of its natural character while serving as an important recreational area for both residents and visitors.
The park's defining feature is its trio of ponds—Shimo-no-ike (Lower Pond), Naka-no-ike (Middle Pond), and Kami-no-ike (Upper Pond)—which together create a tranquil water landscape surrounded by walking paths and seasonal vegetation. The ponds support diverse wildlife including waterfowl, turtles, and fish, making the park a popular spot for nature observation. During spring, the park becomes particularly notable for its cherry blossoms, with approximately 1,000 cherry trees attracting large crowds during hanami season, typically from late March to early April.
Visitors can explore well-maintained pathways that circle the ponds, cross small bridges, and wind through wooded areas offering peaceful walking experiences throughout the year. The park includes open lawn areas suitable for picnicking, playgrounds for children, and multiple rest areas with benches. Sports enthusiasts will find facilities including tennis courts and athletic fields. The park's relatively flat terrain makes it accessible for visitors of all ages and mobility levels. Photography enthusiasts frequently visit during peak bloom seasons, while the park maintains appeal year-round with autumn foliage and quiet winter landscapes.
Mitsuike Park is accessible via the JR Tsurumi Line from Shin-Yokohama Station to Shin-Sugita Station, followed by approximately 15 minutes on foot. Alternatively, visitors can take the Yokohama Municipal Bus from Tsurumi Station or Shin-Sugita Station, alighting at Mitsuike-koen Kita-mon (North Gate) bus stop. The park offers free admission year-round and includes parking facilities for those traveling by car, though parking fees apply and spaces fill quickly during cherry blossom season.
