How to Spend a Day Exploring Umeda Area and Umeda Sky Building
Umeda is one of Osaka’s liveliest districts, full of shopping malls, dining spots, and stunning city views. It’s also home to the iconic Umeda Sky Building, one of the best places to see the Osaka skyline. Whether you’re traveling from within Osaka or coming from another city, this guide will help you enjoy a full day in the Umeda area.

Take a Train to Umeda Station
Where to Get Off:
JR Osaka Station (JR trains from Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, or other parts of Osaka)
Umeda Station (Hankyu, Hanshin, or Osaka Metro lines)
Higashi-Umeda / Nishi-Umeda Station (subway lines)
These stations are all connected underground, so you can walk between them easily, even in the rain.
From Namba (central Osaka):
Take the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line (Red Line) from Namba Station to Umeda Station (about 10 minutes).
From Kyoto Station:
Take the JR Special Rapid Service to Osaka Station (about 30 minutes).
Traveler's Tip: Umeda Station can be confusing because there are many train companies. Follow station signs or use Google Maps for walking directions once you arrive.
Explore Grand Front Osaka
Walking Distance: 5 minutes from Osaka Station
Grand Front Osaka is a large shopping and lifestyle complex with fashion stores, restaurants, and open spaces.
What to Do:
✔ Explore shops with fashion, books, and home goods
✔ Visit Knowledge Capital – interactive tech exhibits
✔ Relax in the open air garden on the 9th floor (great for photos)
✔ Grab a snack or drink from the many food stalls
Walk to Umeda Sky Building & Floating Garden Observatory
How to Get There: From Grand Front Osaka, walk through the underground Yodobashi-Umeda Tunnel and follow signs for Umeda Sky Building. The walk takes 10–15 minutes.
Entrance Fee: ¥1,500 for the observatory
The Umeda Sky Building has two towers joined at the top. The Floating Garden Observatory gives amazing 360° views of Osaka.
What to Do:
✔ Take the glass elevator and the mid-air escalator to the 39th floor
✔ Step onto the open-air rooftop deck – great for photos and sunsets
✔ Look down at the city from the glass windows
✔ Visit Takimi Koji (in the basement), a retro-style food alley that looks like old-time Osaka
Enjoy Lunch in the Umeda Area
There are plenty of restaurants in and around the Sky Building and Grand Front.
Recommended Lunch Spots:
Kiji Okonomiyaki – A popular spot for Osaka-style savory pancakes.
Hanamaruken Namba Houzenji (Inside Grand Front) – Known for hearty ramen bowls.

Explore HEP Five and Ride the Ferris Wheel
How to Get There: From Osaka Station, walk about 5 minutes east. HEP Five is a bright red building..
What to Do:
✔ Ride the red Ferris wheel on the roof (¥600). It takes you 106m above ground!
✔ Shop for clothes, accessories, or cute souvenirs
✔ Try a dessert shop inside the mall
Visit LUCUA and Hankyu Department Store
These department stores offer high-end shopping and gourmet food halls.
What to Explore:
✔ Fashion and cosmetics on the upper floors
✔ Depachika (basement food floors) for sweets, sushi, and snacks
✔ Try traditional Japanese sweets or grab local souvenirs
Walk Around Nakanoshima Park
Walking Distance: 15–20 minutes or 5 minutes by subway
If you want a peaceful break from the busy streets, visit Nakanoshima Park, located between two rivers.
What to Do:
✔ Walk along the riverside paths
✔ Visit the Osaka City Central Public Hall, a historical Western-style building
✔ Enjoy seasonal flowers in the rose garden (especially spring and early summer)
Enjoy Dinner with a View
Wrap up your day with a nice dinner in the area.

Return to Your Hotel
