Kinuta Park

Kinuta Park is a sprawling 39-hectare metropolitan park located in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, with approximately two-thirds of its area comprising open grassland. The park originally served as a municipal golf course before its transformation into a public recreational space. The name "Kinuta" refers to a traditional Japanese wooden mallet used for beating cloth, reflecting the area's historical connection to textile production.

The park's primary claim to fame is its exceptional cherry blossom viewing experience, featuring approximately 840 cherry trees of at least three varieties—Someiyoshino, Yamazakura, and Yaezakura. This diversity creates a relatively long hanami viewing season of over two weeks, making it a premier destination for spring picnicking families. Beyond the seasonal spectacle, the park serves as a year-round recreational hub for families and nature enthusiasts.

Visitors can explore diverse attractions within the park's boundaries. A bird sanctuary occupies the northwest corner, allowing wildlife observation through designated viewing windows. The park features a 1.66-kilometer cycling course that doubles as a walking path outside the hours of 9 AM and 4 PM, along with baseball fields, soccer fields, and children's play areas. A suspension pedestrian bridge spans a tributary of the Tama River that flows through the park, while the on-site Setagaya Art Museum provides cultural enrichment opportunities.

The park is accessible from Yoga Station on the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line, requiring a 20-minute walk from the station. Alternative transport options include taking the Tokyu Coach Bus to the "Museum of Art" stop for closer access. Entry to the park is free, though some facilities may charge fees. The park maintains year-round accessibility, with service centers and facilities closed only during New Year holidays.
