Meiji Mura is the museum for historical buildings of Meiji Period. Urban development has inevitably resulted unto dismantling of many buildings of Meiji Period. To preserve these buildings, Yoshiro Taniguchi, an atchitect, and Motoo Tsuchikawa, the then vice president and thereafter the president of Meitetsu Railroad started Meiji Mura to dismantle, transfer and reinstated those historical buildings.
明治村其实是明治时期建筑物的博物馆。由于现代都市发展, 许多优美和具有历史的明治时期建筑物在日本各地面临被拆除的命运。为了抢救这些建筑物, 明治村的创办人谷口吉郎和名古屋铁道社长土井元夫发起保存活动, 并开设明治村, 把这些建筑物拆移至此。
开发至今, 明治村已分为5丁目: 5个园区。
