Nitta Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Tokyo's Ota ward honoring Nitta Yoshisada, a samurai general from the 14th century who fought for the Imperial cause during the late Kamakura period. Nitta led the military campaign that captured Kamakura in 1333, overthrowing the Hojo regency and ending the Kamakura shogunate. Historical legend describes him offering his sword to the sea as a prayer for victory in this decisive battle. The shrine was founded during the Meiji period when the government promoted veneration of historical figures loyal to the Emperor, establishing Nitta Yoshisada as a symbol of samurai loyalty and military dedication.

The shrine commemorates warrior loyalty and martial honor within Japanese historical tradition. Standard Shinto architecture includes a torii gate, main hall, and worship structures. The shrine maintains a subdued profile compared to Tokyo's major religious sites, functioning as a local community shrine with historical focus. Informational displays explain Nitta Yoshisada's military achievements and historical role. The residential Ota ward location keeps the shrine integrated into neighborhood life while preserving its commemorative function.

Visitors observe standard Shinto worship: entering through the torii, purifying at the water basin, and praying at the main hall. The shrine sells omamori (amulets) and ema (prayer plaques), some invoking Nitta's martial qualities for courage and perseverance. The grounds offer quiet surroundings distinct from busy central Tokyo. Seasonal ceremonies occur without large-scale festival attendance. The small scale and community integration show typical neighborhood shrine culture.

Nitta Shrine is reached via the Tokyu Tamagawa Line to Okusawa Station, approximately 10 minutes walking, or the Tokyu Oimachi Line to Kuhonbutsu Station, roughly 15 minutes on foot. The residential Ota ward setting requires intentional travel rather than incidental visits. Admission is free. As an active worship site, respectful conduct is expected.
