Hunter Mountain Shiobara

Hunter Mountain Shiobara was developed by the owners of Hunter Mountain in New York, establishing a unique international connection between Japanese and American ski resort traditions. Located in Nasushiobara, Tochigi Prefecture, this year-round mountain resort sits on the northwestern slopes of Mount Takaharayama and has grown to become the largest snow resort in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area.

The resort holds significant natural importance as a major recreational destination that transforms dramatically with the seasons. At 1,300 meters above sea level, it provides visitors with a high-altitude mountain experience that showcases the diverse beauty of Japan's changing seasons. The facility serves as both a winter sports destination and a summer mountain retreat, making it a notable example of sustainable year-round tourism development in the region.

Winter visitors can explore 12 diverse ski courses spanning 7.6 kilometers of slopes, with elevations ranging from 1,142 to 1,614 meters. The resort features a 3,000-meter long run and operates 7 lifts to transport guests across the mountain. The facility caters to everyone from beginners to advanced skiers, with specialized areas including a kids' park with sledding courses and a snow park featuring terrain features for snowboarders.

During summer months, the ski slopes transform into Hunter Mountain Lily Park, the biggest lily park in Japan, showcasing 4 million flowers of 50 species. Autumn brings spectacular foliage viewing opportunities through the "Gondola in Autumn Colors" along the famous Nichien Momiji Line, offering panoramic views of Mount Takaharayama's seasonal transformation. From early May to November, portions of the slopes also serve as an auto campground.

The resort is easily accessible, located approximately 150 minutes from Tokyo by car via the Tohoku Expressway. Public transportation is available through Nasushiobara train station, which provides free shuttle bus service to Hunter Mountain. Rental options for ski and snowboard equipment and clothing are available on-site, along with dining facilities and rest areas. The resort operates year-round, with different seasonal attractions and varying admission fees depending on the activities and seasons.
