Izumiyado Pond

Izumiyado Pond is a spring-fed pond on the western edge of the Senjogahara Marshland, along the hiking trail from Yudaki Falls. Located within Nikko National Park in Tochigi Prefecture, this small natural pond serves as a tranquil waypoint for hikers exploring the renowned Senjogahara Marshland, one of Japan's most significant high-altitude wetlands.

The pond forms part of a unique transitional ecosystem where dense forest meets the vast 400-hectare Senjogahara Marshland. This pond is an ideal place to take a break and enjoy lunch during your hike, as it has beautiful spring water and wide-open spaces with tables and chairs. Benches and tables next to the pond offer resting spots where the trail leaves the forest for the wide-open wetlands. The spring-fed waters create a serene environment that frequently attracts waterfowl, particularly ducks that can be observed swimming in the clear waters.

Visitors access Izumiyado Pond as part of the Senjogahara hiking trail network, which connects multiple natural attractions in the Oku-Nikko region. Public transportation users can take buses from Tobu Nikko Station to various stops including Akanuma or Yumoto Onsen bus stops. A 2-day pass for unlimited bus rides between Nikko and Yumoto Onsen is available for 3500 yen at Tobu Nikko Station. The pond itself requires no admission fee and is accessible year-round, though optimal visiting conditions occur during the hiking seasons when trail conditions are most favorable.
