Otaru Beer Brewery Otaru Warehouse No.1 is a spacious brewery restaurant housed in a historic brick warehouse near the canal, inspired by traditional German beer halls.
The beers are the main highlight — well brewed, clean, and very enjoyable. The Bamberger-style smoked beer stood out in particular, with a distinct smoky aroma and balanced flavor. Food quality was better than expected for a large brewery-style venue: the pizza with smoked herring was surprisingly good, and the German sausages were solid and satisfying.
A major advantage is the well-organized queue and reservation system. Upon arrival, you register your group and receive a number, which can be tracked on your phone. This makes it easy to walk around the canal area and return when only a few groups remain ahead of you — very convenient during busy hours (especially around 17:00–18:00).
Overall, Otaru Beer offers good beer, decent food, and excellent crowd management in an atmospheric industrial setting. A reliable and enjoyable stop after a day of sightseeing in Otaru.
The restaurant is located in a beautiful building. You actually don’t need to dine here to visit (you can tour the upper areas). The food is ok, typically beer hall food. Spacious seating and friendly service. Skip the food if you dont particularly like it.
We made a reservation thru autoreserve and felt didn’t need to (there was no queue when we visited at night). Nonetheless, it was good to visit for viewing of the historical building.
The beer is brewed right in front of you, which is entertaining and interesting to watch. The decor and vibe of this place is great. And it's right at the waterfront.
The beer itself tastes great! And this should be the main reason why you come here. Because the food wasn't great. Everything served seems to be prepared elsewhere in advance and nuked in the microwave, or of general low quality.
The service is also pretty much non-existent because you order through the QR code and they just drop the order off or the food robot brings it. No personal approach or small talk at all. Which is somewhat expected in a bar/pub environment.
Still good quality food and very good service. However, the beer quality has been dropping down. I just left now the place disappointed, unfortunately, this place was like a dreamland for me. I have been coming here about 12 to 13 years every year at least twice. I loved the beer, atmosphere and everything. Slowly with the heavy tourist influx and change in general, the place got effected a lot. I am feeling really bad to say this but it's not the same anymore...

Food is okay - not the best German food, but you don’t come to Japan for German food so it’s okay.

Overall a nice place. As a tourist, the standout is the beer - you can visit this place just to drink as well (you don’t have to order food).
