Wazuka's tea industry dates back over 800 years with 300 families currently producing tea, and the area produces approximately half of all Uji tea from Kyoto Prefecture. The region's climate features significant temperature differences between day and night with morning fog that protects delicate tea buds. Tea plants are evergreen, making the scenery beautiful year-round, from spring's awakening to summer's rich green, autumn's warm colors, and occasional winter snowflakes. The annual Chagenkyo Matsuri or Teatopia Festival is held on the first weekend of November, attracting over 6,000 tea enthusiasts.
