Cosmo Planetarium Shibuya opened in 2001 as part of the Shibuya Cultural Center Owada in Tokyo's bustling Shibuya district. The facility replaced an older planetarium and represents Japan's commitment to making astronomy education accessible in urban environments. Located on the 12th floor of the cultural center, it serves as both an educational facility and entertainment venue for visitors of all ages.

The planetarium features a 17-meter diameter dome equipped with advanced digital projection systems that display highly detailed star fields and astronomical phenomena. The facility uses Konica Minolta planetarium technology to create immersive experiences showcasing the night sky, solar system exploration, and cosmic events. Programs include live narration by professional staff who explain celestial movements and astronomical concepts in both Japanese and occasionally English during special international shows.

Regular programming includes seasonal star-gazing guides that highlight constellations visible from Tokyo throughout the year, making each visit relevant to current astronomical conditions. Spring programs often focus on cherry blossom season stargazing, while winter shows emphasize the clear skies and bright constellations of colder months. Cosmo Planetarium Shibuya is located within 5 minutes walking distance from JR Shibuya Station, accessible via the Hachiko Exit. The venue operates Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with multiple show times throughout the day. Adult admission costs ¥600, while children and seniors pay ¥300. Reserved seating is recommended, particularly for weekend shows and special programs.
