Hamamatsu Flower Park

Hamamatsu Flower Park opened in 1970 as a comprehensive botanical garden spanning approximately 30 hectares in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The park was established to showcase seasonal flowers and plants while providing educational opportunities about horticulture and environmental conservation. Its location near Lake Hamana offers visitors a combination of cultivated gardens and natural lakeside scenery.

The park's primary significance lies in its extensive collection of over 3,000 species of plants and flowers displayed throughout the year. The most celebrated attraction is the 1,300 cherry blossom trees representing various species that bloom from late March to early April, creating one of Japan's most photographed spring landscapes. The park also features 600 wisteria plants, including a spectacular wisteria tunnel that blooms in late April and early May with cascading purple, white, and pink flowers. These seasonal displays attract both domestic and international visitors seeking quintessential Japanese floral experiences.

Visitors can explore themed gardens including a rose garden with 1,800 varieties, a tulip garden that showcases 700,000 bulbs in spring, and extensive greenhouses containing tropical and subtropical plants. The park offers illumination events during peak blooming seasons, transforming the gardens into nighttime spectacles. A crystal palace greenhouse maintains year-round displays of exotic flora, while the observation tower provides panoramic views of the gardens and Lake Hamana. The park also includes children's play areas and a small musical fountain show that operates regularly throughout the day.

Hamamatsu Flower Park is located approximately 8 kilometers northwest of JR Hamamatsu Station. Visitors can reach the park via the Enshū Railway Kanzanji Line to Kanzanji Station, followed by a bus ride taking about 10 minutes. Direct buses from Hamamatsu Station to the park operate during peak seasons and take approximately 40 minutes. By car, the park is accessible via the Tomei Expressway, with dedicated parking available for 1,800 vehicles at ¥200 per day. Admission fees vary seasonally based on flower displays, ranging from ¥500 to ¥1,000 for adults, with reduced rates for children and seniors. The park maintains different operating hours throughout the year to accommodate seasonal daylight variations.
