Hanzaki Center

The Hanzaki Center in Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture, is dedicated to the Japanese Giant Salamander, a creature designated as a special natural monument of Japan. The name "hanzaki" comes from local folklore claiming the salamander remains alive even if its body is cut in half, reflecting the deep cultural connection between this endangered species and the region. The center serves as both an educational facility and conservation site for these ancient amphibians found in the rivers around Yubara Onsen.

The Japanese Giant Salamander represents one of the world's largest amphibians and a living link to prehistoric times. The Hanzaki Center is located at 1515 Toyosaka, Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture. The center is approximately 10 minutes by car from Yubara IC on the Yonago Expressway. For those using public transportation, visitors can take a bus from JR Chugoku Katsuyama Station using the Maniwa City Community Bus service to reach Yubara Onsen, followed by a short journey to the center. Free parking is available on site, and admission to the center is free. The facility can be combined with a visit to nearby Yubara Onsen hot springs for a complete day trip experience.
