The tour officially starts at Gion-Shijo Station, where you’ll meet your guide and fellow participants. Get ready to begin your journey through Kyoto’s cultural highlights.

Your first stop is Kennin-ji Temple, the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto. Stroll through its peaceful grounds and learn about the origins of Zen Buddhism and the introduction of tea to Japan by the temple’s founder.

Next, take a scenic walk through Gion, Kyoto’s most iconic geisha district. Admire the historic wooden buildings, charming alleyways, and catch glimpses of traditional Kyoto life.

Step into the serene world of Japanese tea culture at Fukujuen, a well-established tea shop. Take part in an authentic tea ceremony and learn about the rituals and significance behind this elegant tradition.

Finish the tour with a visit to Nishiki Market, often called “Kyoto’s Kitchen.” Stroll through the lively food stalls, discover local specialties, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of this famous shopping street.

The tour covers around 3 kilometers on foot. It’s a walking tour, so please wear comfortable shoes suitable for paved streets and possibly some uneven paths.
The tour runs rain or shine. Please bring an umbrella or wear appropriate rain gear if rain is in the forecast. The guide will adjust the route slightly if needed to ensure comfort.
Unfortunately, due to the traditional settings of some locations and uneven surfaces, the tour is not fully wheelchair accessible.
There’s a chance you may spot a geiko (Kyoto geisha) or maiko (apprentice) in Gion, but it’s not guaranteed. Gion is known for its traditional atmosphere and historical streets, which are beautiful regardless.
