Onsen itself consist of an indoor and an outdoor. The indoor is freaking hot, presumably about 43 degrees while the outdoor Onsen is like 38-39 degrees. It’s quite remote so it’s only accessible by car. Price is a big plus, costing only 600 for an adult. Locker does not need any coin. Body soap and shampoo is provided. Do bring your own towel. What’s unique is the great view of Mt Yotei from the outdoor.
Small, local onsen with views of Mt. Yotei.
The onsen has 7 washing stations, a sauna, 1 indoor and 1 outdoor bath. Body soap and rinse in shampoo provided. In the changing rooms there are small lockers. There are larger lockers in the onsen lobby.
There is a ramen restaurant on site and tatami mat relaxation area.
The views from the outdoor bath are amazing.
Entrance ¥600.
It's not great. Just, average.
600¥ entry is high, for what you get and the location. Sure, the view of Yotei during the day is stunning, yet other Onsen around the area offer better facilities and more bathing options. Here you only have 2 baths.
Closed Mondays. Normal hours 11am-9pm
No, Makkari Onsen does not allow visitors with tattoos to use the bathing facilities. This follows traditional Japanese onsen customs that prohibit tattoos in public bathing areas. If you have tattoos, you should consider alternative hot spring facilities in the Niseko area that are tattoo-friendly.
Yes, towels are not available for rental at Makkari Onsen and must be purchased on-site. Face towels cost 300 yen and bath towels cost 600 yen. The facility provides basic amenities like body soap and shampoo, but visitors should plan to either bring their own towels or purchase them at the onsen.
Makkari Onsen operates from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM during April through September, and 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM from October through March. Adult admission varies by visit type, with 15-time tickets available for 6,000 yen. Children aged 6-12 can purchase 15-time tickets for 2,500 yen, while children under 5 enter free. The facility accepts cash payments only.
The most convenient way to reach Makkari Onsen is by rental car, which takes approximately 2.5 hours from New Chitose Airport. The facility provides 100 free parking spaces. Public transportation requires taking the JR train to Kutchan Station and transferring to local buses serving the Niseko area, though this option is less convenient for accessing this rural location.
Makkari Onsen features an all-natural sourced gensen kakenagashi hot spring with spectacular views of Mt Yotei from its outdoor rotenburo (outdoor bath). The combination of authentic natural hot spring waters and unobstructed mountain views of Hokkaido's iconic volcanic peak makes it one of the most scenic onsen experiences in the Niseko region, offering visitors both therapeutic benefits and stunning natural beauty.
