What other travelers are saying about Mandarake Akihabara Complex
Superb selection and service! Lots of rare art books and materials for good prices. The model kit section was very cool too! I had a great time here with a friend, and recommend it highly to anyone interested in Gundam or anime.
GREAT for fans of popular IPs.
I'm a Dragonball fan, so seeing original run JUMP magazines of the Goku vs Tenshinhan fight made me SUPER happy. I picked up a copy of the Diazenshyuu, an animation guide, and my Uncle found some awesome things for himself.
There's two complexes, this one focusses more on the manga side of things, with the top floors being 18+ (It is Japan, I was silly not to expect this )
Friendly and helpful staff, an interesting atmosphere, and LOTS of awesome stuff that would be a hard find in the US or elsewhere.
Amazing service! Despite the warnings about shipping delays from Japan, the order was delivered to Spain in only 5 days via EMS. The figure was well-protected and arrived in perfect condition. Highly recommended store!
At 3:16 p.m. today, I went shopping at Mandarake Complex in Akihabara. After paying the bill, I took the elevator down from the 8th floor to the 1st floor, without stepping out of the elevator at all during the trip. When the elevator reached the 5th floor, the anti-theft alarm went off right after the two customers in front of me exited the elevator.
Subsequently, a female clerk suddenly approached the elevator, ordered me to step out, and accused me of stealing things. No matter how hard I tried to explain the situation, the clerk refused to listen and kept talking insistently on her own. Even after confirming that I had not stolen anything, she only told me to leave without offering any apology whatsoever. Later, when I asked her directly for an apology, she pretended not to understand what I was saying.
You can find a lot of random things here you won't find anywhere else. Prices are reasonable. Whole floors full of spicy content if you're looking for that.
Visitors can find old and new manga, anime DVDs, action figures, model kits, cosplay costumes, doujinshi (fan-made comics), animation cels, trading cards, and rare collectibles. Some items are highly valuable and sought after by collectors.
Yes, it is one of the best places in Japan for collectors. The store offers hard-to-find, out-of-print, and limited-edition items, including rare manga and vintage anime merchandise.
Prices vary widely. Some common second-hand manga and figures are affordable, but rare and vintage items can be very expensive. Limited-edition collectibles and signed merchandise often cost more.
