Takaosansumika

Takaosansumika is a two-story complex located directly in front of Takaosan Station, the midway point of Mount Takao's cable car system. This facility serves as both a dining destination and souvenir shop for visitors exploring Mount Takao, one of Tokyo's most accessible mountain destinations. The complex features a shop on the first floor and a café on the second floor, positioned strategically on Mount Takao where thousands of mythical creatures, including the famous Tengu, supposedly once lived.

The complex's signature offering is the Tengu-yaki, a pastry filled with sweet Hokkaido black bean paste that features the distinctive face design of a crow tengu. This specialty item is exclusive to Takaosansumika and cannot be purchased elsewhere, making it a unique souvenir available only to those who visit Mount Takao. Since June 2020, the facility has also offered vegan soba noodles, using kelp and shiitake mushrooms for the soup stock instead of the traditional fish-based broth.

The complex provides visitors with multiple dining options and serves as a convenient rest stop during mountain exploration. The café restaurant "SUMIKA" offers original coffee blends, while the souvenir shop stocks a variety of Mount Takao and Hachioji-related merchandise. Additional food vendors within the complex include Mitsufuku Dango and Tenguya, offering traditional Japanese sweets perfect for hikers.

Takaosansumika is accessible via the Takao Cable Car, with visitors taking the JR Chuo Line to Takao Station, then transferring to the Keio Takao Line to reach Takaosanguchi Station. From there, it's a short walk to the cable car base station. No admission fee is required to enter the complex, though cable car fares apply for transportation to the midway station.

What other travelers are saying about Takaosansumika
