Fun food tour in kyoto
We first wandered through Nishiki market, stopping at various stores where our guide would explain about some of the foods/products, and making stops at some of the food stalls/stores where we tried some of the food.
We then went to the basement of Daimaru department building which is like a big fancy food area, and got dessert there.
This is a really good way to see the market and the food area in the department store over a few hours, and our tour guide was really lovely. I think it’s a good think that they took us through the market before the afternoon, because it wasn’t too crowded.
Nishiki Market walking food tour
Machiko was a wealth of information about the market, the food, the history of the vendors and the temples within the market. The three hours went by fast. We sampled eel tempura, soy flour donuts, steamed tofu skin with soy sauce, rice crackers, Wagyu beef skewers, sake (¥100), some traditional Kyoto dishes like the egg omelet, stewed radish, konjac, fried tofu skin. The beef was so good we went back for beef sushi after the tour.😋
