2025年6月に行きました。今回は電車で行きました。地下鉄東山線の東山公園が最寄り駅です。歩いて数分と駅からのアクセスが良いのがありがたいですね。
コモドオオトカゲを見るのをメインの目的としてい行きました。土曜日に行ったのですが、当日はほとんど動きもなく「あ、いるなぁ」くらいの感想でした。うろ覚えですが週に一度日曜日に餌やりをするらしく、その時であれば動きがあるところを見れたかもしれません。
他の動物も色々いて楽しめました。ウォンバットのウォレス君も見たかったのですが残念ながらこの時にはおらず長野の動物園にいるとのことでした。
お昼の時間、お店はかなり混んでいて座るところを探すのが大変かもしれません。おにぎりとかき氷を食べましたが、どちらも美味しかったです。
動物を見るほかにもスカイタワーに登ったりボートに乗ることもできるので、子供たちも飽きないと思います。一日楽しめる場所です。
I visited in June 2025. This time, I went by train. The nearest station is Higashiyama Park on the Higashiyama Subway Line. It’s only a few minutes’ walk, so the easy access from the station was really convenient.
My main purpose was to see the Komodo dragon. I went on a Saturday, but it barely moved that day, so my impression was simply, “Ah, there it is.” If I remember correctly, they feed it once a week on Sundays, and if I had gone then, I might have seen it being more active.
There were many other animals as well, and I enjoyed them. I also wanted to see Wallace the wombat, but unfortunately he wasn’t there at the time—apparently he was at a zoo in Nagano.
Around lunchtime, the restaurants were quite crowded, so finding a seat might be a bit difficult. I had rice balls and shaved ice, and both were delicious.
Besides watching the animals, you can also go up the Sky Tower or ride boats, so I think kids won’t get bored. It’s a place where you can enjoy the whole day.
名古屋郊外の広い土地を活用した広々とした動物園であり、敷地内には植物園、遊園地も兼ねています。入園料もリーズナブルで、名古屋市街地からのアクセスも良く、気軽に行けるところも魅力の一つです。
展示されている動物は500種近くにも及び、ゾウやキリンの他、サイやゴリラなどの希少種も多く展示されているのが特徴です。多くの動物の展示の方法は典型的で奇を衒ったところはなく、基本的に柵やガラス越しの鑑賞ですが、リスや小鳥などの小動物やヤギやヒツジなどは直に触れることも出来ます。
飲食可能なスポットをはじめ、ベンチなどの休憩可能なスポットも豊富であるため、1日中この動植物園に居ても飽きることはないでしょう。但し、上記の通りアクセスも良くリーズナブルな価格で利用できるため、休日や特別な企画がある際は非常に混雑します。（コモドドラゴン等）極めて稀少な種の動物が初展示される際は、1〜2時間待ちなど当たり前の長蛇の列が出来ることもあります。動物たちがあまりの混雑振りを目の当たりにするとストレスを感じる可能性がありますので、可能であれば平日の人が少ない時期を見計らって、ゆったりと散策しつつ園内を周遊する方がいいかもしれません。
This is a spacious zoo located on a large site in the suburbs of Nagoya, and it also incorporates a botanical garden and a small amusement park within the grounds. Admission fees are reasonable, and access from central Nagoya is convenient, making it an easy and appealing destination to visit.
The zoo is home to nearly 500 species of animals. In addition to elephants and giraffes, it features many rare species such as rhinoceroses and gorillas. Most animal exhibits follow a traditional style, with viewing through fences or glass rather than innovative or immersive displays. However, some smaller animals - such as squirrels and small birds - as well as goats and sheep can be interacted with directly in designated areas.
There are plenty of dining options and resting spots, including many benches, so visitors could easily spend an entire day here without getting bored. That said, because the zoo is affordable and easily accessible, it becomes extremely crowded on weekends and during special events. When exceptionally rare animals (such as Komodo dragons) are exhibited for the first time, it's not unusual to encounter very long lines, sometimes requiring waits of one to two hours. Such heavy crowds may also cause stress for the animals themselves. If possible, visiting on a weekday or during a less busy period is recommended, allowing for a more relaxed stroll and a more enjoyable experience throughout the park.
