It was reported that during the New Year holiday of 2026, icy road conditions caused the prefectural road leading to Mitsumine Shrine to be closed, forcing some visitors to spend the night in the parking area. After visiting in person, I could understand why this happened, as the shrine is located deep in the mountains of Chichibu at a relatively high elevation.
If traveling by car, it takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours from the Hanazono IC area, Yamanashi City area, or Iruma area. As shown in the bus timetable I uploaded, bus services are infrequent, so access by public transportation is not particularly convenient.
I visited on a weekend afternoon and had to wait about 15 minutes to enter the parking lot. However, the parking area is quite large and cars leave regularly, so the wait did not feel excessive. Parking for a standard passenger car costs 520 yen per day.
If you plan to visit only the main shrine buildings and do not hike to the Okumiya (Inner Shrine), there is not much walking involved, and the physical demand is relatively low.
I highly recommend trying the grilled rice cake topped with miso sauce sold along the approach to the shrine. It was delicious.
In addition to driving directly to the shrine parking area, there is also a traditional approach route from the Owa district via the Omotesando trail and Kiyono Falls. The route is approximately 2.7 km long and takes about 45 minutes to walk.
