Saikawa Bridge is a historic stone arch bridge in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, representing traditional Edo-period bridge construction. Built in 1849 using mortarless stone masonry techniques, the bridge was constructed to connect rural communities and support agricultural transportation across the Saikawa River. The structure spans approximately 20 meters with a single graceful arch formed from locally quarried stone. Skilled stonemasons of the era fitted the stones precisely without binding materials, creating a durable bridge that has survived over 170 years of use and natural elements including earthquakes and floods.

The bridge is designated a Tangible Cultural Property by Sasebo City for its architectural and historical importance. It exemplifies traditional Japanese stone bridge engineering methods prevalent in 19th-century rural areas, most of which have been replaced by modern infrastructure. The bridge's preservation in a relatively undisturbed rural setting maintains the historical context of Edo-period transportation networks and community infrastructure. The natural surroundings of river valley and seasonal vegetation enhance the site's appeal, with cherry blossoms in spring and autumn colors providing scenic backdrops to the weathered stone structure.

Visitors can cross the pedestrian-accessible bridge to examine the mortarless stone construction and arch design. The structure supports foot traffic but prohibits vehicles to ensure preservation. Viewpoints from the riverbank allow observation of the full arch and its reflection in the water below. The rural location offers quietness and photographic opportunities capturing the bridge within its natural landscape. The site appeals to enthusiasts of historical engineering and traditional architecture rather than general tourists.

Saikawa Bridge is approximately 30 minutes by car from Sasebo Station on the JR Sasebo Line, which connects to Nagasaki and Fukuoka. Public transportation to the bridge is minimal, making rental cars or taxis necessary for access. The remote positioning suits visitors exploring northern Nagasaki Prefecture who can combine it with other Sasebo attractions like Kujukushima islands or Huis Ten Bosch. Admission is free as a public bridge.
