What other travelers are saying about Kurumayama Kogen SKYPARK Ski Resort
There is a chairlift that brings you to the top of Mt. Kuruma. If you want to hike from here to the top, it would take a long time(more than 2 hours one-way according to the guide). The chairlift is split into two sections, and it takes about 15 minutes combined. The second section is rather high compared to the first one! It's a bit nerve wrecking as it shakes but it's fun. Make sure to get the tickets before going to the boarding zone.
The resort operates from early December through late March, though exact dates vary depending on snow conditions. Lift operations run on weekdays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and on weekends and holidays from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The resort maintains excellent skiing conditions throughout the season thanks to its high altitude between 1,570 and 1,907 meters and advanced snowmaking equipment.
Yes, the resort is highly suitable for beginners. Approximately 40 percent of the terrain is designated for beginners, with wide, open slopes that have few trees. The Family Trail, one of the main beginner areas, features a gentle average slope angle of 12 degrees and extends 900 meters in length. The resort also offers ski lesson programs for those just starting out, making it an ideal location for families and novice skiers.
The resort features the Sponge Bob Kids Park, the largest children's snow park in the area. The park includes snow tubing, striders, sleighing, snow hills, and various snow play activities. Entrance costs 1,500 yen on weekdays and 2,500 yen on weekends and holidays, though children under two years old and lift ticket holders enter free. For non-skiers, snowshoe trekking tours lead through snow-covered forests to Yashima Wetland for nature observation and animal tracking.
Yes, the resort provides rental services for ski and snowboard equipment including skis, boots, poles, boards, and skiwear. Equipment rental packages are available, though specific pricing should be confirmed with the resort. Guests should bring valid identification when renting equipment. The resort also has restaurants, gift shops, changing rooms, and paid lockers for storing personal belongings.
There was less than half a day left when I arrived, and there wasn't any natural snow all that week, yet they charged full prices for lifts and rentals. That was pretty surprising and disappointing. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the quality of rental equipment was great. I just wish they had a friendlier policy on pricing for shorter days and poor snow conditions.
I hiked this mountain during autumn. The autumn scenery is just amazing, like grassland of Africa (haha, really). You can even spot deers here (the dotted ones). There is a restaurant on the way up where you can try soup curry and bread which is a must try when you’re here.
Nice ski resorts, with just enough of everything - variety of slopes, services in the ski centre and also good access. I would say there are more slopes for beginners than advanced.
