THE BEST OKONOMIYAKI IN HIROSHIMA
Two of us went for an unforgettable lunch at Okonomimura. The restaurant is tucked inside a building and is hard to miss thanks to the distinctive staircase at the entrance. Inside, it spreads across several floors, with countless counter seating areas each equipped with a hot griddle – every chef cooks the dishes right in front of the customers, making for a fascinating culinary performance.
Despite its huge reputation, we didn't have to wait in line at all, thanks to the many seats available across the different levels. We sat down and ordered the classic okonomiyaki, made with batter, Chinese cabbage, udon noodles, bacon, bean sprouts, eggs, and teriyaki sauce, all enriched with fragrant spices and that signature teriyaki touch.
Having the chef knead and cook everything right before your eyes not only builds anticipation but really whets your appetite. The dish was exceptional: flavorful, perfectly balanced, and so generous in portion that we could only finish it by sharing it between the two of us.
The quality-to-price ratio is excellent. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hiroshima, and I personally can't wait to go back!
I tried the classic hiroshima-style okonomiyaki here, which is made with noodles and cabbage. honestly, I liked it much more than the one I had in osaka, although the traditional sauce isn’t really my favorite. I find it a bit too overpowering. still, it was really good and the staff were so kind. just keep in mind they only accept cash, so make sure you bring enough.

The food was phenomenal, and we loved their lemon based drinks which they make themselves! We had a standard and deluxe okonomiyaki, a lemon beer and two lemon sodas which ended up being around 6k¥.
They make the food in front of you, but it's served on plates for sanitary reasons which I found really nice. There's also no takeout for leftovers to prevent food poisoning. But I assure you you'll lick the plate clean.
So yummy!! Have heard great things about these pancakes in Hiroshima....so glad we tried them. There is one site that has several floors of different shops making them. We just guessed at which one to try. Owner and wife were awesome! It was like dinner and a show. They made dinner right in front of us- all fresh ingredients- and when it was done cooking, you eat it right off grill. Alot of food, not alot of money. Highly recommend!
The Okonomiyaki here was excellent. It’s made to order, so you can always ask add items if it’s not listed on the menu (cheese was a big favorite). The owner, staff and atmosphere were the kind of relaxed experience that keeps me coming back to Hiroshima.
