I visited the island to trek the Jomon Cedar. I arrived the day before, rented a car in Miyanoura, and drove counterclockwise around the island.
The entire trip is about 100 km, so it takes about three hours by car. However, there are many tourist spots along the way, so I recommend planning for about six hours. It took me nearly seven hours, and I ended up just before the rental car office closed. Note that the island's rental car office closes at 6:00 PM, about two hours earlier than the mainland.
Apparently, this is a beautiful spot for watching the sunset. However, I passed by around noon, so there was nothing I could do. It was a wonderful spot, but I ended up just being impressed by the view of the East China Sea.
By the way, I've encountered sunset spots on many islands. However, I've never seen a sunrise spot other than the summit of Mount Fuji. Perhaps that's because getting up early is a high hurdle.
