Japan in a week: Tokyo → Kanazawa → Osaka

A trip Beyond the golden route: You're planning a trip to Japan? you're coming in spring for cherry blossoms or winter for magical snow? I have set up this 7‑day route gives you the best mix of Japan’s iconic cities and one of its most underrated gems: Kanazawa. I have done this route myself so I will make sure link all the recommendations with my social media posts. Your journey starts in Tokyo, where modern architecture, ancient shrines, style, and incredible food set the tone. After exploring Japan’s vibrant capital (and optional day trips to Hakone or Kamakura), you’ll head to Kanazawa, a compact, beautifully preserved cultural city that feels like Kyoto but without the crowds! phew! All incredibly walkable, serene, and perfect for travelers who want culture without rush. From there, the trip continues to Osaka, Japan’s food capital, where neon streets, markets, and castle views wrap up the perfect week, before returning to Tokyo for your flight home. This itinerary is ideal for first-time visitors, couples, and anyone curious to experience Japan beyond the usual Tokyo–Kyoto track, while still enjoying classic highlights. Kanazawa truly surprised me, and I’m excited to share this full journey with you. Day 1

Tokyo Arrival & First Impressions

I arrived in Tokyo and settled into my hotel before heading straight to Asakusa. Sensō‑ji’s lanterns, incense, and the busy little stalls on Nakamise‑dori felt like the perfect welcome to Japan. After a quick snack, I moved over to Shibuya to experience the famous crossing. Watching the city light up from Shibuya Sky at sunset was such a beautiful way to start the trip. Dinner was simple ramen in Shibuya before calling it a night.

Day 2

Shrines, Fashion and Modern Tokyo

I started the morning at Meiji Shrine, walking through the peaceful forest path as the city slowly woke up. From there, I wandered into Harajuku’s colorful streets before heading into Omotesandō for a more elegant vibe with cafés and architecture I love. I ended the evening in Ginza, which always feels cinematic with its glowing storefronts and polished atmosphere.

Day 3

Day Trip from Tokyo and Evening Train to Kanazawa

This day was dedicated to exploring outside Tokyo. Depending on the weather, you can choose Hakone for hot springs and Fuji views, or Kamakura for temples, bamboo and ocean breezes. After the day trip, I returned to Tokyo Station and took the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Kanazawa. The moment I stepped out of the station, the pace felt calmer and refreshing. I took a small walk around Higashi Chaya before resting.
