沖縄ワールドは、沖縄の自然・歴史・文化を一度に体験できる、非常に完成度の高い観光施設です。最大の見どころは、日本最大級の鍾乳洞「玉泉洞」。全長約5kmのうち約890mが一般公開されており、内部は想像以上に広く、自然が何十万年もかけて作り出した鍾乳石の数々は圧巻です。照明の演出も美しく、幻想的な空間に思わず足を止めて見入ってしまいます。
鍾乳洞を抜けたあとは、琉球王国時代の街並みを再現したエリアが広がり、紅型、ガラス工芸、陶芸など沖縄ならではの伝統工芸を実際に見たり体験したりできます。職人さんが作業している様子を間近で見られるのも魅力で、観光施設でありながら文化の「本物」を感じられました。
エイサーの演舞も必見です。太鼓の音と迫力ある踊りは、短時間ながら沖縄の魂を感じさせてくれます。屋外エリアが多いため、暑い時期は水分補給と歩きやすい靴が必須ですが、その分、開放感があり沖縄らしさを存分に味わえます。
正直に言えば、全体をしっかり回るにはそれなりに体力が必要ですが、見応えは十分。水族館とは違った角度から沖縄を知りたい方、初めて沖縄を訪れる方にも、リピーターにもおすすめできる観光スポットです。
Okinawa World is a well-rounded cultural theme park where visitors can experience Okinawa’s nature, history, and traditions all in one place. The main highlight is Gyokusendo Cave, one of the largest limestone caves in Japan. About 890 meters of the cave are open to the public, and walking through it feels like stepping into a completely different world. The vast space, combined with dramatic lighting, showcases stunning stalactites and stalagmites formed over hundreds of thousands of years.
After exiting the cave, you enter a recreated Ryukyu Kingdom village where traditional Okinawan crafts such as glassmaking, pottery, and textile dyeing are demonstrated. Watching skilled artisans at work up close gives the experience an authentic feel, rather than just a typical tourist attraction.
The Eisa dance performance is another highlight. The powerful drumming and energetic movements convey the spirit of Okinawa in a short but memorable show. Since much of the park is outdoors, it can be physically demanding on hot days, so comfortable shoes and hydration are essential. However, the open-air layout adds to the immersive atmosphere and allows visitors to truly feel the island’s character.
While it does require some time and stamina to explore everything, Okinawa World is well worth the effort. It offers a deeper understanding of Okinawan culture beyond beaches and aquariums, making it a highly recommended destination for both first-time visitors and repeat travelers.
