This old and traditional Tororo(grated yam) restaurant is very famous. It’s located on Tokaido(a historical road connecting east and west.) Will be nice to come by when you are around.
A unique white yam sauce served with warm barley rice. The two delicacies that came with my meal were also made from wild yam: deep fried yam and deep fried yam tofu. Wild yam is known to have great medicinal properties. The architecture of the house was also very interesting given that it is a traditional house built in 1596.
One of the oldest and the most historical restaurant in Shizuoka. You can enjoy Tororojiru, which is Japanese traditional homemade meal, with Edo age atmosphere.
Chojiya is located in Mariko, one of the 53 post stations on the old Tokaido Road in Shizuoka City. The restaurant can be reached by taking a bus or taxi from JR Shizuoka Station. The journey takes about 20 minutes.
The main dish at Chojiya is tororo-jiru, served in various ways, including over rice (tororo-gohan) or with soba noodles. The restaurant also offers a set menu that includes seasonal side dishes, miso soup, and pickles, providing a well-rounded traditional Japanese meal.
While reservations are not always required, it is recommended, especially during weekends, holidays, and peak tourist seasons.
A meal at Chojiya typically ranges from ¥2,000 to ¥4,000 per person, depending on the dishes and set menu chosen. The pricing reflects the quality of ingredients and the traditional preparation methods used.
