Highland Furano

Highland Furano is a scenic flower park located in Furano, Hokkaido, Japan, situated at an elevation of approximately 600 meters on the hillside of Mount Tokachi. The park was established in 1987 as part of Furano's agricultural tourism development, transforming former potato fields into expansive flower gardens that showcase the region's natural beauty and horticultural expertise.

The park spans approximately 15 hectares and is renowned for its spectacular displays of lavender and seasonal flowers. The landscape features gently rolling hills covered in vibrant purple lavender fields, particularly stunning during peak bloom from mid-July to early August. Beyond lavender, visitors encounter colorful patches of poppies, lupins, salvias, and other alpine flowers that create striking color contrasts against the Hokkaido countryside backdrop. The elevated location offers panoramic views of the Tokachi mountain range and the pastoral Furano basin.

Visitors can explore the flower fields via walking paths and wooden boardwalks that wind through the plantations. A popular attraction is the park's alpaca farm, where guests can observe and photograph these gentle animals grazing among the flowers. The grounds include several observation decks strategically positioned for photography and viewing. A small tractor bus operates during peak season, transporting visitors across the hillside gardens. The facility houses shops selling lavender products, essential oils, dried flowers, and local Hokkaido specialties, along with a restaurant serving regional cuisine and lavender-flavored soft-serve ice cream.

Highland Furano is located approximately 14 kilometers northeast of central Furano town. Visitors typically reach the park by car, with the journey from Furano Station taking about 25 minutes. During summer months, seasonal tour buses connect the park with Furano Station and other nearby flower attractions. The nearest major city is Asahikawa, roughly 50 kilometers north, with its airport providing access for domestic travelers. Admission is free year-round, though the park is most visited between June and September when flowers are in bloom. Parking facilities accommodate several hundred vehicles at no charge.
