Koijigahama Beach stretches for approximately 1 kilometer along the Pacific Ocean coastline at Cape Irago, located at the southern tip of the Atsumi Peninsula in Tahara City, Aichi Prefecture. The name "Koijigahama" translates to "Lover's Beach," derived from a local legend about a noble couple who engaged in an illicit love affair, were banished from their home, and came to live in this area.

The beach holds significant literary importance as the inspiration for the famous poem "Yashinomi" (meaning Coconut) by renowned Japanese writer Toson Shimazaki. This connection stems from 1898, when folklorist Kunio Yanagita discovered a coconut on the beach during his month-and-a-half stay at Irago and shared this find with his friend Shimazaki Toson, who then used it as inspiration for his work. The beach's natural beauty and cultural significance have earned it recognition in multiple national rankings, including Japan's Top 100 Beaches and Top 100 Soundscapes, with additional honors as one of the 100 best roads, 100 best sound sceneries, and 100 best white beach and blue pine trees.
