What other travelers are saying about Koma Observatory Deck
It is on the top of Tsukuba san and just close to Tsukuba cable car.🚠 This observatory offers a nice view of Tsukuba City and Kanto area. We had a chance to visit around evening and we could enjoy the night view of city scape from the mountains.
Open observatory is on the third floor and second floor is cafeteria with 360 degrees viewing. Cafeteria has many local delicacy and nice coffee.
You can spend hours there.
Amazing scenery.. I came here at the end of autumn, and just love the vibes and the colors of surrounding.. There is 2 way to reach this spot, by hiking or by cable car.
Mount Tsukuba never disappointed me in anytime ! I’ve hiked a lots of time with my friends and hiking circle ! And Koma View Terrace is in the top of the Tsukuba san and the middle of two peaks of Tsukuba san (Mt. Nantai and Mt. Nyotai). Inside the terrace you can find omiyage, restaurant and the most amazing views. The foods are okey. But just next to the terrace you can find more restaurants and which are more delicious!
Please go and enjoy the view !
I was here in June, together with a Japanese friend. We walked up the mountain, starting close to the cable car station, had a nice dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed the fantastic views from the Terrace. We took the cable car back down to where we parked the car. This is a bit off the beaten path and not easy to get to using public transport, but if you have a car and want to get away from the hustle and bustle in Tokyo, this is definitely a worthwhile visit.
No, entry to the Koma Observatory Deck is completely free. However, to reach the observatory at the summit of Mount Tsukuba, you need to pay for either the cable car (590 yen one-way or 1,070 yen round-trip) or the ropeway (750 yen one-way or 1,300 yen round-trip). The Tsukubasan Story ticket at 4,000 yen for adults provides combined access to all transportation options with significant savings.
The Koma Observatory offers a circular-shaped rooftop observation deck providing 360-degree panoramic views of the Kanto Plain. On clear days with favorable weather, you can see Tokyo Skytree, Mount Fuji, and Lake Kasumigaura, Japan's second largest lake. The observatory is particularly popular for night views and has been designated as a Japan Night View Heritage site.
The observatory has three levels: a souvenir shop on the first floor, a dining area with views of the Kanto Plain on the second floor, and the rooftop observation deck on the third floor. The restaurant serves regional specialties including Tsukuba udon noodles, soba, mountain cuisine, oden, and beverages. Access to the rooftop is via a narrow spiral staircase, so visitors should use caution when ascending and descending.
From the Koma Observatory at Miyukigahara, visitors can hike to either Mount Nantai or Mount Nyotai peak in approximately 10-15 minutes along well-maintained hiking trails. This makes it easy to visit both peaks during a single trip and experience the different perspectives each summit offers.
The observatory can be enjoyed year-round, but particularly popular times include autumn (early to late November) for foliage viewing when the cable car operates extended "Night Cruising" hours, and winter months (October through February) when special "Stardust Cruising" services operate on weekends for optimal night views and stargazing. Winter conditions are especially favorable as the air is particularly clear, offering excellent visibility of Tokyo, Narita Airport, and the Kashima industrial area.
