What other travelers are saying about Koriyama Castle Ruins
Nothing much to see there. No more things than what we see in photos. However, if you are around, you can visit the park and have a peaceful and relaxing afternoon. The resturant inside the park is quite pleasant with attentive staff and stone scenery. Up to the stone wall, you can see panoramic view of the castle and surroundings. Nothing much in the castle except few displays and the second floor is closed. If you are not around, it is not worthwhile visiting. There are many other attractions in Nara including Nara Park and Naramachi which are more worthwhile spending your time at.
The castle itself is gone, but visitors can explore the stone walls, moats, and foundations that remain. Some gates and watchtowers have been rebuilt to show what it looked like in the past. The area is now a park where people can enjoy history and nature.
Spring is the best time because of the beautiful cherry blossoms. The festival in late March to early April is a highlight. Autumn is also nice, with colorful leaves adding to the historic feel of the site.
The Koriyama Castle Cherry Blossom Festival is the biggest event. Visitors can see the sakura trees lit up at night and enjoy local food and performances. Sometimes, there are historical reenactments and cultural events at the site.
The castle ruins are in Yamatokoriyama, Nara Prefecture. The nearest station is Kintetsu Koriyama Station, just a 10-minute walk away. From Nara City, it takes about 10-15 minutes by train, making it an easy trip.
Went on a Sunday during cherry blossom season, while there’s a Castle Festival, lots of locals camping under the trees & kids playing around, lots of food stalls & super crowded.
Eating, drinking, hanging out, & chilling with family & friends, as how a Sunday should be.
For foreign tourists, if you want to avoid the crowds, better go on a weekday.
Castle is nice but really not that much to see or history to learn about.
Nice place. Beautiful Cherry and Plum Trees. Lots of volunteer guides available, Parking is all free and close from the station.
We have visited again during some festival (Oshiro Matsuri Festival) in the park. It was nice and each food stands are so reasonable in price. People works there was also nice. Cherry blossoms were 🌸 so impressive.
It’s a leisurely stroll through castle grounds with a beautiful view of Nara City. The cherry blossoms are not yet blooming but it’s still pretty beautiful here. There’s a spring festival with lots of yummy food and activities for children. At night the lanterns are very pretty. Parking is free at the back. There’s an entrance from the back as well through the school path.
nice view on top, but nothing more. This castle is ruin. There is a small shrine on middle, it looks nice. May be you should visit in cherry blossom season, it is better.
