Nago Pineapple Park

Established in 1979, Nago Pineapple Park stands as one of Okinawa's most distinctive theme parks, dedicated entirely to the tropical fruit that has become synonymous with the island. Located in northern Okinawa's Nago City on the Motobu Peninsula, this unique attraction emerged during Japan's economic boom as part of Okinawa's tourism development strategy. The park operates Japan's first pineapple winery, reflecting Okinawa's historical connection to pineapple cultivation that began during the early 20th century when the fruit was introduced as a commercial crop.

The park's cultural significance extends beyond mere entertainment, serving as an educational center that preserves and showcases Okinawa's agricultural heritage. Featuring approximately 120 varieties of pineapples, both edible and ornamental, the facility demonstrates the diversity of tropical agriculture and the island's subtropical ecosystem. The attraction functions as both a working plantation and tourist destination, contributing to the preservation of traditional farming knowledge while adapting to modern tourism demands.

Visitors experience the park through multiple engaging attractions centered around the signature "Pineapple Cart," an automated guided vehicle that operates at 3km/h and includes audio narration in multiple languages. The 10-minute ride through tropical gardens and pineapple fields provides a comprehensive overview of the cultivation process and subtropical flora. The "Mega Animal Garden x Pineapple SL Area" and "Dinosaur Tour Adventure," added in 2019, have expanded the park's appeal beyond agricultural education to include interactive wildlife exhibits and themed entertainment zones.

The facility includes extensive botanical gardens showcasing rare subtropical plants, waterfalls that provide natural air purification, and comprehensive tasting areas where visitors sample various pineapple-derived products. The adjacent souvenir shop offers pineapple wines, juices, cakes, chocolates, and fresh fruit, allowing guests to experience the full range of culinary applications for the tropical fruit.

Located approximately 75 kilometers from Naha, the park is accessible via highway bus numbers 111 or 117 or the Yanbaru Express from Naha to Nago Bus Terminal, taking 90 minutes and costing 1,550-2,420 yen. Local transportation from Nago Bus Terminal to the park requires additional connections. Rental cars provide the most convenient access, with dedicated parking facilities available on-site.

Adult admission tickets cost 1,200 yen for visitors 16 years and older, with 10% discounts available for advance bookings and group purchases. The admission fee includes the automated cart ride through pineapple fields and tropical gardens, access to all walking areas, and complimentary product sampling. Parking fees are charged separately and are not included in the standard admission price.
