What other travelers are saying about Nishiki Tenmangu Shrine

A highlight while exploring Nishiki Market. Tucked away in the busy market, the pretty lanterns during the evening caught my eye and I felt like a entered a different world when I entered the temple grounds. It is small but packed with various statues, small shrines and decorations. Recommended to visit during the night as the lightning is super pretty and really adds to the magical feel of the shrine. There is no entry fee.

This temple was located smack dab in the middle of Nishiki Market in Kyoto. There's a large golden cow and a bunch of mini shrines inside. There were a ton of school students stopping by at the main shrine inside. Saw a bunch of them praying to expel evil spirits and grant luck for studies. A lot of tourists stop by for photo ops but there's nothing special about the temple. You can make a quick 5-10 min stop walk in and walk out and continue shopping inside the market.

A good place to pause if you're in the busy Nishiki Market area. It's a small shrine but worth a quick stop with lanterns and a bronze cow statue that make it interesting.

I visited there when it was midnight and it was a great spiritual experience. No fuss, no overcrowded tourist, just the shrine and gates.
