What other travelers are saying about Nonhoi Park, Toyohashi Zoo and Botanical Park
(Visited on 26 Nov 2025)
I mainly walked around the zoo and somehow also managed to finish the natural museum and the botanical zone as well. Overall, it was impressive, considering the very cheap price (600 yen for adult).
- Zoo: huge, plenty of space to walk around. However, I noticed some animals were not visible in the cage (e.g. Polar bear: no reasons given; Emu: due to bird influenza; Wallaby: no reasons given; etc.) or only one of the herd was visible (e.g. Hippo, Orangutan, Chimpanzee, Serval, etc.)
- Museum: nicely arranged.
- Botanical zone: the green house was under arrangement, and most of the flower exhibits (e.g. Monet pond, Lily, etc.) is empty due to the seasonal reasons.
Notes: I did not visit the amusement park zone.
The park opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 4:30 PM, with last admission at 4:00 PM. It is closed on Mondays (or the following Tuesday if Monday is a national holiday) and from December 29 to January 1. The park may open on Mondays during Golden Week, summer vacation, and certain holidays.
Yes, outside food and drinks are permitted. The park has designated picnic areas with benches. Restaurants, snack stands, and vending machines are also available throughout the grounds.
Stroller rentals cost 300 yen per day and wheelchair rentals are free. Most pathways are paved and flat. A free shuttle bus operates on weekends and holidays between major zones. Baby changing facilities and nursing rooms are located near the main entrance and central rest area.
Focus on the African Savanna zone with elephants, giraffes, and lions, and the Natural History Museum's Skeleton Gallery. The Polar Bear exhibit and tropical greenhouse are also popular. A suggested route map is available at the entrance.
Polar bear feedings typically occur around 10:30 AM and 3:00 PM. Elephant and penguin feeding demonstrations are also scheduled daily. Check the schedule board at the main entrance or the official website for exact times, which vary by season.

Children will thoroughly enjoy this place.
Wonderful botanical garden.
I enjoyed walking around the entire park, and walked through the greenhouse twice. This took me about two and a half hours and the layout of the park was very friendly for someone who does not speak Japanese
I went there on a weekday. It was very quiet, and the food sold was limited. The place is very interesting, with lots of bathrooms. It is very child-friendly.
