What other travelers are saying about Ryugahama Campsite
The staff is super nice. The snorkeling here is amazing and I hope they keep taking care of the reef. ( the boats should probably start using biofuel in the regarding the tourist boats that come from the little so that the water stays as clean as it can! ) Be prepared not to be able to have a campfire, but they do have a nice little area to cook with some sinks and places to make fires that includes a wood fire pizza oven. Make sure not to forget your camp chairs as there's no picnic benches and you'll have to tie your tents down to the decks provided for tents if there's wind. It's not a sandy beach it's a rocky beach so you'll want to remember your beach shoes. A beach umbrella or canopy is a good idea especially when you can put over your tent if it's the cheaper kind because if it rains it will rain suddenly and you will get very wet if you don't have a proper rain fly. Over all it is a well maintained camp and fun. It's really pretty and quiet. It's a peaceful campsite with a beautiful beach. In the summer you were lulled to sleep with the sounds of night birds crickets the ocean etc.
Nice campsite really close to the sea. There are 3 kinda of sites, all together on a wooden deck, separated wooden deck plots or raised wooden deck plots.
There were raised pegs to hang your tent too if you need. The decks are right next to a bit of a marshy field with loads of crabs (cool!) but lots of insects at night (not so cool, but that's nature).
Small walk down to the beach, all big rocks and stones and lots of sea lice on the rocks (nature...) But the water was great, clear and had lots of sea life. We saw a ray, sea eel, pufferfish, a huge dead tuna (there is a tuna farm in the bay, guess it escaped...) And lionfish amongst others. Great stuff.
Everyone went to bed and sleep early, around 9, so it was super quiet and the shower is 300 yen for 5 min which is a bit steep. There is also a washing machine here to clean your clothes if you are on an extended trip.
Good place we will likely visit again.
Frustrating, it has nothing to do with the photos, there are many stones with water, dirty and there is nothing on the island, even the photos of the island are misleading. I didn't dive, maybe the marine life pays off😕
If you really enjoy camping that's a amazing camping site, with a private trail to the beach, but carry everything you need, cause there isn't any trade around there.
