Senpiro-no-taki Waterfall

4.3 (200)Tourist AttractionPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Senpiro-no-taki Waterfall on Yakushima Island is a breathtaking natural wonder. It has a 60-meter drop cascading over a massive granite rock. This rock is so large that it's said to be the size of a thousand rice fields, hence the name "Senpiro," meaning "one thousand fields." The waterfall is a stunning sight, with water flowing gracefully down, creating a soothing and mesmerizing scene.

The surrounding area is lush and green, filled with ancient cedar trees, some of which are thousands of years old. Yakushima Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its unique ecosystem and abundant rainfall. This rainfall feeds the waterfall, making it even more spectacular, especially during the rainy season.

Senpiro-no-taki is easily accessible, making it a popular spot for visitors who want to experience the natural beauty of Japan. The sound of the water and the serene environment make it a perfect place to relax and connect with nature.

What other travelers are saying about Senpiro-no-taki Waterfall

Beautiful falls from a distance. The walkway going to the falls could not be accessed due to landslide. It’s a quick 10 minute visit. Nov 2024.

Impressive waterfall viewable a very short walk from the carpark. There's also 2 nearby viewing platforms that look out toward the sea. There's a small store that sells produce + souvenirs I think but it wasn't open when I visited.

A lot of stairs to go back up (around 200, I counted) after you get down to see the falls but it’s totally worth it. The observatories are amazing, too.

Good spot to view the falls. Beware of the monkeys on the way down.

As long as you have access to a car, it's worth stopping here for a visit and getting some photos. The waterfall itself is very photogenic, but you can also get some nice views of the island as well from some of the viewing platforms around the carpark area.
