What other travelers are saying about The Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden
It is very large so I would come again.
It takes time to both walk and observe the plants from the parking lot to the ticker gate (entrance). Walking only takes about 5 minutes, quite long.
Many plants commonly found in Shikoku and Japan were planted with description.
There was a building in which basic botanical knowledge was explained with illustrations, and even the history of botany (particularly related to Dr. Makino, a famous botanist of Japan).
I love the entrance building of the tropical house (see the last 2 photos) because it looked uninhabited and deserted building, somehow like the ones in Studio Ghibli's Laputa-Castle in the Sky.
I don't remember they had powder-puff tree but the glass lake was nice (we could see the underside of giant water lilies).

Nice place to go if you want to spend some time in the nature when you in Kochi city. To go there, you can take the my-yu bus as there’s a stop at the entrance. Just make sure you have the bud schedule. Inside, there is a variety of plants and the area is pretty big. If you just want to walk around, it will take about two hours to have a quick look at everything. There’s also a souvenir shop and a cafe.
Sprawling grounds that contain a wide variety of plants and flowers. Beautiful landscaping everywhere. The greenhouse has great decorations with excellent atmosphere that feels like being in a rainforest in the tropic jungle.
