What other travelers are saying about Tove Jansson Akebono Children's Forest Park
I think it's worth going out of your way to come here in the autumn when all the leaves are turning color. It is quite a small park, not a lot of things to see. You can go inside the mushroom house which is quite nice tho.
The park give the fairytale vibe, it is really good for spending time with kids or family. There is mushroom house and small library. Picnic area are available, but not so big.
There’s also a coffee shop and ice cream stand inside the park. The entrance fee is free with a huge parking lot.
It’s close on Monday.
We have visited this park several times and my young child loved it. Please adjust your expectations: the park is quite small! Having said that, it’s very picturesque and if you like photography then you’ll love it.
If you go into all the buildings and stop in at the cafe then you can really make a morning or afternoon out of it!
Check out the illuminations, and firefly viewings and special events on the park website.
The cafe is yummy and totally worthwhile, but on weekends and public holidays you’ll need to get a seat by 11am, otherwise you’ll need to queue up.
There is free parking and the park is free!
If you need to walk from the station, you should be able to walk on an asphalt pathway along the river for most of the way, which is a bit more enjoyable than walking next to the road (although walking along the roadside is fine too).
There is also a hiking course that leaves from behind the library building.
Though it's not so convenient to go to this park but still highly recommend to visit this beautiful park especially during autumn.
The buildings together with the natural scenes give people a very peaceful moment and you will have the feeling that you are really visiting Moomin!
The architecture is reminiscent of the enchanting Ghibli style, creating a magical atmosphere. This peaceful park offers a serene escape and is easily accessible from Tokyo. A perfect spot for families and anyone looking to enjoy a tranquil day out.
No, the park is completely free to enter. There are no admission charges, making it an accessible destination for families and visitors of all backgrounds.
The park is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, though hours may vary depending on the season. The park is closed on Mondays, or on the following weekday if Monday falls on a national holiday.
Take the Seibu Ikebukuro Line to Motokaji Station, then walk for approximately 20 minutes to reach the park. Alternatively, you can drive from the Sayama-Hidaka Interchange on the Ken-o-do Highway, which takes about 20 minutes. If you're taking the train to Higashi-Hanno Station (accessible via both Seibu Ikebukuro Line and JR Hachiko Line), note that the park is about 4 kilometers away.
Visitors can explore distinctive fairy-tale buildings with curved, organic architecture inspired by Tove Jansson's Moomin stories. The park features forest areas along the Iruma River where families can enjoy nature walks and seasonal scenery. On weekends, special illumination displays create a magical atmosphere, and the park hosts monthly events throughout the year.
