Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum

The Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum is a distinctive theme park and museum located at the foothills of Mount Fuji in Fujikawaguchiko-machi, Yamanashi Prefecture. The museum features buildings constructed with old cobblestones, roof tiles, stone pillars and decorations that recreate a medieval European atmosphere, making it a popular destination for photography and weddings.

The museum houses a world-class collection of antique music boxes, mechanical organs and other automatic musical instruments primarily from European countries. Notable exhibits include the world's largest "dance organ and doll orchestra" and the Philharmonic Performance Orchestrion designed for the Titanic. The centerpiece is a French fairground organ from 1905 that occupies an entire hall and performs every 30 minutes.

Visitors can experience live musical performances in the museum's concert hall, where classical musicians from around the world perform alongside the century-old automatic instruments. These concerts feature collaborations between 100-year-old automatic musical instruments and modern opera singers, with elaborate stage costumes provided by Atelier YOSHINO Ltd. The museum also offers hands-on music box making workshops for guests seeking an interactive experience.

The museum grounds encompass European-style gardens with seasonal themes, art installations, and rose gardens, all offering spectacular views of Mount Fuji across Lake Kawaguchi. The facility includes restaurants and cafes where visitors can enjoy meals while taking in the mountain scenery.

Admission prices vary by season and day of the week. Weekday adult tickets cost ¥1,800, while weekend and holiday prices rise to ¥2,100, and high season tickets reach ¥2,300. Discounted rates are available for students and children. The museum is accessible by direct buses from Tokyo's Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal and Akihabara Station, or visitors can take highway buses to Kawaguchiko Station and connect via taxi or the Kawaguchiko Retro Bus.
