Osaka Mint Bureau (Zoheikyoku)

The Osaka Mint Bureau (Zoheikyoku), founded in 1871, is Japan’s main facility for minting coins and medals. Located in Osaka, it played a key role in modernizing the country’s currency system during the Meiji era. The Mint Museum showcases historical Japanese coins, minting machines, and artifacts, offering insight into Japan’s numismatic heritage.

A major highlight is the Cherry Blossom Viewing Walkway, open for a limited time each April, featuring over 300 cherry trees from 100+ varieties. The Osaka Mint Bureau continues to produce Japanese yen and commemorative medals while supporting international minting projects.
