SCMaglev and Railway Park

The SCMaglev and Railway Park stands as Japan's premier railway museum and a testament to the nation's technological leadership in rail transport. Owned by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) in Nagoya, the museum opened on March 14, 2011, serving as both an educational facility and celebration of Japanese railway innovation. Japanese railway technology began in 1893 with the class 860 locomotive, the first locomotive manufactured in Japan, evolving through the full electrification of the Tokaido Main Line in 1956 and culminating in the revolutionary Tokaido Shinkansen service that started in 1964.

The museum's cultural significance extends far beyond its exhibits, representing Japan's transformation into one of the world's leading railway nations with operating lines covering more than 27,000 kilometers of track. The facility showcases the evolution from steam locomotion to superconducting magnetic levitation technology, illustrating Japan's continuous pursuit of transportation excellence and its impact on modern society.

Visitors experience railway history through 39 full-size railway vehicles and one bus exhibit, including both Maglev and conventional rolling stock. The centerpiece symbol display features three record-breaking trains: the Class C62 Steam Locomotive, Class 955 Experimental Shinkansen (300X), and MLX01-1 Superconducting Maglev, all of which set world speed records in their respective eras. Interactive experiences include train cab simulators and Japan's largest railway diorama, allowing visitors to operate virtual trains and observe detailed miniature railway operations.

The museum is located at 3-2-2 Kinjofuto, Minato Ward, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. From Nagoya Station, take the Aonami Line to its terminal station, Kinjofuto Station, a 25-minute journey costing 360 yen that operates approximately every 15 minutes. The museum sits just steps from Kinjofuto Station, making access convenient for visitors. The Aonami Line is not covered by the Japan Rail Pass, requiring separate ticket purchase.

Admission costs 1,200 yen for adults, 500 yen for school children, and 200 yen for children under 3 years. Group discounts are available for parties over 20 people, reducing adult admission to 800 yen and school child admission to 400 yen per person. Simulator tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis with one-time experience limits to ensure all visitors can participate.
