The most popular time to visit is during cherry blossom season from late March to early April, when approximately 500 Yoshino cherry trees bloom throughout the park. The blossoms are illuminated at night, creating a particularly stunning atmosphere along the moat. Autumn is also an excellent time to visit for colorful foliage on the surrounding Shiroyama mountain, while the castle ruins and historic town can be enjoyed year-round.
By car, the park is located around 20 minutes' drive from the Tottori Nishi Interchange of the Tottori Expressway. If using public transportation, take a local bus from Tottori Station bound for Shikano. The journey provides access to both the park and the historic castle town surrounding it.
Only the stone walls and moats remain from the original castle structure, but these archaeological features provide insight into the castle's 16th-century design. A walking path leads to the former castle tower site at an altitude of 148 meters, offering panoramic views overlooking the Japan Sea. The surrounding castle town still preserves remnants of the samurai residence quarters, merchant districts, and craftworker areas from the feudal era.
Plan to spend at least half a day to fully explore the castle ruins and the surrounding historic town. This allows time to walk the paths through the park, visit the former castle tower site, and stroll through the old town districts where you'll find traditional machiya townhouses, local restaurants, cafes, galleries, and specialty shops in renovated buildings.
